Coconut is one of the most popular places for Asian food and cocktails in Reading.  We’ve served more than 150,000 customers since we opened our doors in May 2014.

3 years ago, in Reading nobody knew who/what/where Coconut was. It’s been a journey!

We face difficulties all the time, as a team, we learn from each other, we help each other to get through these difficulties everyday. Without the staff, we can't build such a successful business in this short period of time.

As a director of Coconut Bar and Kitchen, I am proud to say, we are one of the best teams in Reading. Our mission is simple and clear to our team members. We want " Our customers who come in to Coconut and feel proud to be here. We always pay close attention to our customers’ feedback. I would like to take this chance to say ‘thank you’ to all our customers. Most of our regulars have become friends.  Here we have dream and hope, that’s what pushes us forward. We will keep making Reading proud.

We hope we can open another Coconut Bar and Kitchen in the near future, so more people can enjoy our great food and drinks and our lovely atmosphere.

Rock n roll moment in hospitality: 1. 10 years ago,  I served 60 customers behind the bar by myself and all the customers enjoyed watching me working fast and crazy and they all tipped. 2. At the beginning of my bar career bar, in a night club, I lost a bet with another bartender. I had to take my top off and danced on the dance floor with a full house. Can't even remember what the bet was.

Whilst studying Hospitality and Tourism in College I worked various positions in various restaurants. This sparked my passion for the restaurant and hospitality industry.

I began my success in Coconut Bar and Kitchen, by first building a properly trained team around me. I am very passionate about my work at Coconut Bar and Kitchen and I am often referred to as the ‘heart’ of Coconut.  I love doing what I do and it’s fulfilling. Many customers have become friends and it’s heart-warming to see smiles. At Coconut we are all about people. People come first. I'm proud of what we’ve accomplished together as a team. Our accomplishments would not have been possible without the heartfelt commitment and unified effort from our people.

What I love about the restaurant industry is that it’s constantly changing and developing – new restaurant concepts to the art of bartending.

My advice for those interested in the industry is to never stop learning and to challenge yourself to be better every single day.

I am driven by the success of others and have learned that in order to be successful, the right team has to be hired and they must have the passion and attitude for providing genuine hospitality.

I strongly believe that the power of a positive attitude carries extraordinary results.

What did you want to be as a kid:  It was a dead heat between a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and the Green Power Ranger. So naturally I became a bartender.

Tell us a secret:  My guiltiest pleasure is Martini Asti and I once flared a bottle of JD into my face and gave myself a black eye for a week. Told people I had been in a fight to retain my “Dangerous Ben” reputation.

Favourite Drink:  Hands down Coca Cola (yes I know its bad but it tastes soo good)

Rock n Roll moment in hospitality:  I worked for a company called Branagans in the late 90's they had a dance called the Branagans Boogie which staff had to get on stage and perform on a fri/sat night in front of a packed club of drunk people. Sorry to disappoint i decided to leg it out the back door. Although recently i was completely embarrassed by a professional belly dancer here in coconut but everyone had a laugh at my expence that was fun.

Best chat up line heard at the bar:  Did you get those yoga pants on sale? Because at my house they're 100% off. I have never used it btw.

Worst chat up line heard at the bar: she didnt say much just call me while her hand was in my pocket, at first I thought she was going for my wallet but then found her number. I gave it to my mate and he met up with her, I clearly made the right choice - lol.

What did you want to be as a kid:  A Ninja. Grew up watching Van Damme & Seagal then woke up as being a ninja isn't that easy to apply for. Found cooking and never looked back 22 years and counting.

Tell us a secret:  No chance sorry guys.

Favourite Drink:  Rum Old Fashioned. Eldorado 15yr rum works best for me because I like them old.

Rock n Roll moment in hospitality:  I turned up to work one day on the back of a T-Rex, shaking a Singapore Sling in one hand and stirring down a Manhattan – dry- in the other hand at the same time… for the Queen... Of Narnia.

Only joking, I haven’t had my ultimate “Rock n Roll moment yet. I hope that when it happens it’s as good as my initial thoughts.

Worst chat up line heard at the bar:  “A lady asked me once “can I lick your beard?”

What did you want to be as a kid:  I remember vividly that I wanted to be a chef. I would empty my mum’s cupboards to try and cook stuff. My finest dish was cornflakes marinated in Marmite and olive oil.  I order take away a lot. 

Tell us a secret:  I was once sleeping with my eyes open so a friend of mine tried to talk to me and thought I was dead.  Which was fun.

Rock n Roll moment in hospitality:  Making the “Jacky G Flaming Lamborghini” – which went crazy! It was alight and I threw chocolate powder (very flammable) on top which in turn created a massive flame, enough to set off the fire alarms in the bar! Everyone panicked.

Worst chat up line heard at the bar: “Do you like Aloe Vera?” It’s my own line and I don’t even regret it!

What did you want to be as a kid:  Mafia Boss!  Due to me growing up in a harsh country and the fact that the only people who had nice things were either rich politicians or the mafia, I opted not to be a Trump of this world but more an Al Capone.  So yeah, Mafia Boss.

Tell us a secret:  To be honest, I’m completely free of any secrets for now! I’m an open book. People who know me know what I get up to and that I’m open and friendly.

Favourite Drink:  Negroni – but without the Campari, it’s too bitter. Oh and no vermouth, makes it too sweet. I’m not a fan of gin either, tends to be too dry. So, water. I like water.

Rock n Roll Moment in hospitality:  10 ladies asked me for 2 shots and a cocktail EACH. So naturally I made them Orgasm shots for their first and second drinks, followed swiftly by Sex on the Beach for their third. Needless to say, it was a great night…

What did you want to be as a kid:  Obviously a super hero. Aged 4 I sent my CV to The Avengers and landed an interview with Captain America. I feel like it went really well but I’m still waiting to be called up for my trial shift.

All our food is prepared and cooked on the premises by our expert chefs. We have a range of daily specials reflecting the season and availability of the best ingredients around.

Then look no further, as we can arrange a spectacular cocktail masterclass for you and your friends at Coconut Bar & Kitchen – and make your event something you’ll never forget.  

You’ll learn from one of our expert in-house mixologists the art of creating perfect cocktails with flair and panache; get to enjoy what you’ve produced; and then you can carry on your party here to some great vibes – with more cocktails and some great food also available.

You’ll each receive a glass of Prosecco upon arrival and then your party will be tutored by one of our experts in the art of making a couple of cocktails from across our extensive menu.  

Everything is included including all spirits and mixers, plus a complete history and full training.

Includes a glass of Prosecco on arrival. All of the basic package, plus 1 portion of Starters from our Restaurant Menu

Includes all of the basic and classic package, plus a side and main course to enjoy in our restaurant.


We also have a DJ here most weekends to help your party along and we’re open from 11am until 1am weekdays and until 2am Friday & Saturday.

This  booking form  is for  24+ hours in advance. We will get in touch within  24hrs of receiving your request. Either by telephone or email to confirm we have received your online booking.  Should you wish to reserve a table on the day, please call 0118 9598877

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Table Reservations
When making a group booking of 10 people or more, we require a deposit of £5 per person. (Until then the reservation remains provisional.) The deposit will secure the table reservation for the party for up to 30 minutes after the agreed booking time. Thereafter the booking is null & void. In the event of your party running late it is your responsibility to inform the restaurant.  If you haven’t paid a deposit, your table reservation is held for a maximum of 15 minutes only. After this time, your reservation will be null & void.

Please note: Your table is available to you for a maximum of 1.5 hours from the agreed booking time during busy periods.

Cocktail Master Class Reservations
When making a Cocktail Master Class booking we require a non – refundable deposit of £10 per person. Until then the reservation remains provisional.

Payment terms
Deposits are non – refundable.  The Deposit amount will be deducted from your final table bill. We accept all major credit cards and cash. Unfortunately we are not able to accept cheques.

Cancellations
Should you need to change your booking, please let us know as soon as possible.  Should you need to cancel your reservation, we require 72 hours notice in order to refund your deposit.

BIBIMBAP - STONE POT RICE
