Coconut is one of the most popular places for Asian food and cocktails in Reading. We’ve served more than 150,000 customers since we opened our doors in May 2014.
3 years ago, in Reading nobody knew who/what/where Coconut was. It’s been a journey!
We face difficulties all the time, as a team, we learn from each other, we help each other to get through these difficulties everyday. Without the staff, we can't build such a successful business in this short period of time.
As a director of Coconut Bar and Kitchen, I am proud to say, we are one of the best teams in Reading. Our mission is simple and clear to our team members. We want " Our customers who come in to Coconut and feel proud to be here. We always pay close attention to our customers’ feedback. I would like to take this chance to say ‘thank you’ to all our customers. Most of our regulars have become friends. Here we have dream and hope, that’s what pushes us forward. We will keep making Reading proud.
We hope we can open another Coconut Bar and Kitchen in the near future, so more people can enjoy our great food and drinks and our lovely atmosphere.

Rock n roll moment in hospitality: 1. 10 years ago, I served 60 customers behind the bar by myself and all the customers enjoyed watching me working fast and crazy and they all tipped. 2. At the beginning of my bar career bar, in a night club, I lost a bet with another bartender. I had to take my top off and danced on the dance floor with a full house. Can't even remember what the bet was.

Whilst studying Hospitality and Tourism in College I worked various positions in various restaurants. This sparked my passion for the restaurant and hospitality industry.
I began my success in Coconut Bar and Kitchen, by first building a properly trained team around me. I am very passionate about my work at Coconut Bar and Kitchen and I am often referred to as the ‘heart’ of Coconut. I love doing what I do and it’s fulfilling. Many customers have become friends and it’s heart-warming to see smiles. At Coconut we are all about people. People come first. I'm proud of what we’ve accomplished together as a team. Our accomplishments would not have been possible without the heartfelt commitment and unified effort from our people.
What I love about the restaurant industry is that it’s constantly changing and developing – new restaurant concepts to the art of bartending.
My advice for those interested in the industry is to never stop learning and to challenge yourself to be better every single day.
I am driven by the success of others and have learned that in order to be successful, the right team has to be hired and they must have the passion and attitude for providing genuine hospitality.
I strongly believe that the power of a positive attitude carries extraordinary results.

Rock n Roll moment in hospitality: I was doing my room checks round in a hotel and didn’t realise the room was occupied. Opened the door with the master key and a man was there stood in front of me NAKED! We both froze for about 10 seconds. He jumped around not knowing what to do. I ran back to the office.

Rock n Roll moment in hospitality: I worked for a company called Branagans in the late 90's they had a dance called the Branagans Boogie which staff had to get on stage and perform on a fri/sat night in front of a packed club of drunk people. Sorry to disappoint i decided to leg it out the back door. Although recently i was completely embarrassed by a professional belly dancer here in coconut but everyone had a laugh at my expence that was fun.

Worst chat up line heard at the bar: she didnt say much just call me while her hand was in my pocket, at first I thought she was going for my wallet but then found her number. I gave it to my mate and he met up with her, I clearly made the right choice - lol.
What did you want to be as a kid: A Ninja. Grew up watching Van Damme & Seagal then woke up as being a ninja isn't that easy to apply for. Found cooking and never looked back 22 years and counting.

Rock'n'Roll Moment in hospitality: I had to cover a head chef on a Saturday nigh. I didn’t anything about the menu as it was my first week, so I was doing all the shouting in the kitchen pretending that I know everything. Luckily I’m still alive.

Rock n Roll moment in hospitality: Making the “Jacky G Flaming Lamborghini” – which went crazy! It was alight and I threw chocolate powder (very flammable) on top which in turn created a massive flame, enough to set off the fire alarms in the bar! Everyone panicked.

What did you want to be as a kid: Mafia Boss! Due to me growing up in a harsh country and the fact that the only people who had nice things were either rich politicians or the mafia, I opted not to be a Trump of this world but more an Al Capone. So yeah, Mafia Boss.
Tell us a secret: To be honest, I’m completely free of any secrets for now! I’m an open book. People who know me know what I get up to and that I’m open and friendly.

What did you want to be as a kid: Obviously a super hero. Aged 4 I sent my CV to The Avengers and landed an interview with Captain America. I feel like it went really well but I’m still waiting to be called up for my trial shift.
